So I was cruising through Sydney, with a new pair of jeans in hand, and not a care in the world, humming along to some oldskool Beastie Boys shit... when I spied through the window of a store, some silver kicks. Now those who know me, know that im a pretty big fan of most fresh kicks... However this wasn't any store.. it was Hugo Boss, and these silver kicks looked pretty fucking similar to some Supra shoes that dropped over 2 years ago... and have been refined a couple of times.
Here we have "Boss" by Hugo Boss
vs.
Supra Skytop
Dior also had some silver/gold shoes a little while ago. The point is, Hugo Boss need to lift their shit. Stick to suits/smoking-jackets/business shirts.... You don't see Chad Muska @ Supra trying to make the ultimate corporate power suit do you?. Because up close those "Boss" kicks were not worth the $600 price tag.
In other news Metronomy made a cool film clip to their track 'A thing for me'
Hey yall Its selecta reporting from the Indian subcontinent. Since i arrived here on the 21st this country has become one of the 20 most dangerous in the world. With a statistic of more people being killed by Jihadis in the last 12 months than anywhere else in the world. Pretty nuts.
My companero is leaving early because of this fact, but i still have work to do. ie listen to as much bad bollywood music as possible, beat konducta style.
ANyway, to the music. I just logged on today for the first time in a while and really needed to get a fat hit of some metronomy beats. and turns out anoraak gave them the RMX treatment. metronomy are by far my chocie for the best group in the world in the last 12 months. Heartbreaker is amazing, as well as every other track off the album. they are coming to Australia for a string of dates mid January, including the Sydney festival, which i will unfortunately miss out on.
Here is a mix created by a local hero, Access. His words:

Always thinking about the people, that's what we like.

This adds to the list of festivals that have/will be in 2008/2009. crazy shit.
It started with another boring Van She performance, they played their usual set and I'm pretty sure the only time the crowd cheered was when they said "You guys excited to see Bloc Party?". They looked bored, they sounded bored.
Then Bloc Party owned the stage like nothing else. They played everyone's favourite tracks, even right from their very first release. Flux, Banquet, Ares, Hunting for Witches, Halo all got everybody jumping and humping. Except one, I somehow expected more from Mercury, maybe it was just me, but i wanted to see something happen, like gorillas or something.
Ares was the highlight and the final song they played, started with Kele saying "Lets give you what you want".
no track for this post, just the new architecture in helsinki vid for "that beep":
If you're having trouble reading club posters, it says Bang Gang Deejays are playing at onefiveone on the 22nd of Nov...this weekend!
They are currently on their national compilation cd launch tour, playing all sorts of venues. I just got my hands on this compilation, but didn't get the sweat towel with it so i was a little dissapointed, especially because i ran to JBHifi and was extremely sweaty at the counter.
Here is a little mix that will make you want to buy as well.
One thing, when they say Bang Gang they only mean the doom and the hoodrat. No Ajax brothers.
Thats right, those crazy kids behind liberteen ranch, havent even washed the fake blood/Tranterco's sweat off yet.. but they have popped up and decided to have a party 2 weeks after their last, rather than 2 months.. Great for partying.. not so great for livers..
I didn't make it to the last one... (stupid exam season) but from all reports it was crazier than a night on the coke with keith richards. Halloween brings out the best/worst in people.
This time around we have:
Cassette Kids - They are launching a mini-album (whatever the fuck that is) called We Are, the tracks sound pretty cool and "You Take It" has been getting a bit of airplay from JJJ which is cool. They have that indie, guitar driven, girl on vocals kind of feel, and apparently alot of energy on stage which should be fun to see/get drunk too.
Pomomofo - I hadn't heard too much about these guys other than a few tracks however on investigating their myspace.. i like their stuff even more.. especially the toxic avenger remix of Island. They are touring their new ep In super VGA.. me likes. Can't wait to see them.. potential highlight of the night.
Spook - Wollongong's hardest working DJ, you know him ... he plays at everything and usually gets the kids dancing.. he doesn't love alot of our posts.
Obama Bin Laden - No idea who this crazy kid is.... couldn't find the artist on myspace... hopefully its a b2b set of Osama vs. Obama. Update:This masked raider has appeared at ranchs before.. however has split with his previous collaborator... watch this space for more Obama Ben Laden news.
Tradehooks DJ's - i.e. us... we are opening the night.. complete Ed Banger discography. SRSLY we will be dropping a bit of everything.. old... new.... really old... then getting drunk as.
Hit the Liberteen Ranch myspace for guest list spots... save you $5... which can buy you 1 beer. or 2 soft drinks. (that might be untrue)
Ah yeh.. its on friday the 14th too... exams are over.. your liver has potentially had 2 weeks off... PUNISH IT.
The new tradehooks mixtape is finally here. this one has been produced on different levels by all of the tradehooks team (absentees, selecta and skillz)
With some cracking new, not so new, downright old and outdated tunes, its the bomb. whack it in ur car stereo and let the good times roll
With tracks from:
Treasure Fingers Midnight Juggernauts Theatre of Disco Death From Above 1979 David Rubato Gameboy/Gamegirl Sebastien Tellier Keedz Holy Ghost The Virgins MIA Grand Popo Football Club Booka Shade Doobie Brothers Wire Mr. Oizo
adidas Originals has just released in the land of the AF1, Japan, the Tech Rave collection. The line consists of five sneakers - Handball 5 Plug, Superstar, Samba Super, Metro Attitude and the ZX800.
Those bad boys up the top are the Metro Attitude and they are already sold out im pretty sure. if yall find them, hook me up with the details
Ill be going. But i dont like how people were expecting something as good as 2007. This is apparently still the "first" announcement so exclusive to tradehooks is the SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT including..................................
VAN SHE TECH!!!!
woah, omg i cant believe it, thats incredible. how can they afford that along with all these other artists? i thought they were playing at the unibar that night.
Gameboy/Gamegirl Miami Horror Fait Accompli Anklepants Teen Heat Jesse and Burns Blake and Pete and tsk tsk
A cracker lineup for this ranch
Gameboy/gamegirl will be an almost religious experience. their mind boggling electro/punk/street/club/ghetto/hip hop beats cant get old, and these guys know how to party. tranterco is a mental and is the world's most electric and handsome frontman
I never really liked miami horror, mainly coz every time i saw spook play live he would play everyone of their remixes and i just got over them. i never thought producers could remix so many tracks. then i listened to the the sweat it out mixtape, in which ajax mixed disc 1 and miami horror the second. opening with a breakbot original i was instantly won over, chuck in a oizo remix and i was ready to propose. this dj set should not be missed
Fait Accompli i have never heard of before. this is off their myspace
"Established underground band Fait Accompli, a hard working three piece from Darlinghurst, Sydney, Australia was born from a love of the night life and music between friends. Fait Accompli emerged as one of the new bands to watch from within the new band scene which was about to erupt in Sydney in late 2006/2007.
Creating their own original style of Progressive Rock n' Roll Fait Accompli craft songs hard enough to upset the weak and gentle enough to bring an angry man to tears, but all round their music is full of colourful ideas which combine different styles with ease making their music not only accessible but stylistically difficult to pin down. With the drummer on main vocal duties makes them a rare breed. Fait Accompli have enjoyed their short time together, self releasing their debut EP which received healthy airplay on Sydney’s FBI Radio and playing shows up and down the East Coast to rave reviews."
i just listened to a few of their tracks on myspace, they fuckin rock, really awesome shit anklepants is friends with toecutter and rainbow ejaculation, so you don't ever know what to expect from this crazy kid
teen heat, also new to me, are taking the stage. they seem to mix with the calling in sick and trashbags crew. so i guess you can make your own mind up about the sound. they got some pretty sick remixes on their myspace
Jesse and Burns, and Blake and Pete - not exactly sure who they all is, but jesse and burns but on tight dj sets, and burns did a set a couple of ranches ago that was fuckin sick. worth seeing.
i leave the best till last tsk tsk, soon to be somehow supporting the alan braxe of stardust (music sounds better with you) tsk tsk, do what they do week to week at ofo. i have never seen them both together live, but spook mixes tight commercial house week in week out, making the girls cream and boys bounce (or is it the other way around). spook has blocked me from accessing his pics on facebook (lol, i have no idea why?), and ben has deleted his myspace account from his emo/hardcore/punk past so i will leave you with this ps, as u may notice there are no tracks in this post, the dmca are breaking our balls. but there will be more tracks on tradehooks. just remixes. ghey
no. thats not absentees latest lady friend, it's the 11yo MC Milly D from Sydney's Get Busy crew. Is it cool for an 11yo to bust lines like 'damn girl i could go all night' or 'every time i bust a line, it should be a goddam crime'. Me thinks yes. The Beats are produced by her 18yo brother Digsey, reminiscent of a younger and cleaner mouthed Amanda Blank.
Does it get any more gangster than 'no rapping till your homework is done'?

I wanted to share with you people two tracks that i'm fapping over atm. The first is off the Bloody Beetroots latest EP, Rombo is something that i can't help but love.
The second track i'm sharing is a smash off Oizo's cutest album, Lambs Anger. 'Hun' has one of the greatest beats i have heard from Dr. Oizo, i can't wait to get my hands on the whole album :)
1. Djedjotronic - dirty and hard 2. Malente & Dex - hyperactive (Bobmo Remix) 3. Foamo - moving it over here (Urchins Remix) 4. Justice - planisphere (MMMatthias Remix) 5. Destroy Disco - fly or bounce 6. Bingo Players - get up (Diplo Remix) 7. Le Castle Vania - zero machine 8. The Bloody Beetroots - rombo 9. MSTRKRFT - bounce (Remix MMMash-up: Felix Cartal, Bloody Beetroots, A-Trak) 10. Nacho Lovers - acid life (Surkin Remix)
Another solid release from our good friend MMMatthias. I can't resist mixtapes, i think its how they combine both a dj's/artists musical taste, skill and fascinations.
Maybe the gem of all the performances at Parklife Sydney, the E.L.F. blew our minds. Daz of the E.L.F was once a member of one of Australia's favourite indie bands, Gerling, and this new direction rocks. not taking anything away from gerling. (death to the apple girls goes down as one of my fave all time tracks, and dust me selecta contains one of my aliases)
AHHH SHIIIIT! ---------------------------------- The lineup is officially being announced on October 2nd, (tomorrow!), so i thought i'd post up what i think it will look like. That clue book was fuckin impossible, like a fishing lure for Fat Boy Slim, sero? Then again, i get headaches and have trouble walking in a straight line when i look at cryptic crosswords.
Here is what i think the lineup will look like tomorrow:
Fatboy Slim
Sam Sparro (uber ghey)
DeadMau5
Ladyhawke
Yelle
N.E.R.D.
The Roots
Gameboy/Gamegirl (Playin Liberteen Ranch)
and others
These were based on the guesses of various unofficial+unfactual posters on inthemix and the good vibrations website.
Here at tradehooks, we don't really post much about politics coz...well we just don't But Selecta, he believes that politics and his beloved hip hop should be kept seperate, that's why he don't like the Herd, and NaS's new album.
Anyway, Obamy released a campaign album, called 'yes we can' (he is a Treacherous Three fan? dunno), and he asked his BFFs Kanye West, Malik Yusef and Adam Levine (a white guy) to get together and drop some shit. So they made 'the promised land', a decent track, mainly coz of the timbalandesque drums about halfway through. listen to it.
Nb. you might know Malik from the outro on Yeezy's "Crack Music" or from Common's "My City", two BANGING trax
Justice did this set thingo for Dior Homme a while ago and it felt like the blogosphere just went "meh". Then they released this thing called Planisphere and everyone was like "OMG WTF THIS IS S00000 AMZIN", but me i was like "meh".
Now MMMatthias has remixed it and im excited, i have not listened to a MMMatthias remix yet i don't like.
The first time i went to Nevereverland i met a guy called Peter Pan The second time i met Robin Williams dressed up like Peter Pan The third time i met 2 robots called Daft Punk, which with their interplanetary powers sent Modular bankrupt (again) The fourth time i went to Nevereverland hasn't happened yet, but i think Daft Punk or someone as good like Justice or Mr Oizo will probably play at it. You can't make a shitter party, things have always got to be better. But can Daft Punk Actually be topped, or will they return, without helmets or a spaceship?
Today i have three tasty morsels for you happy punters out there:
1. Soulwax have released a new dvd, im trying to get my hands on a copy as we speak, i believe it is a dvd of live Soulwax sets/ 2manydjs sets / Touring banter. Its called Part of the Weekend never dies.
here is the intro
2 and 3:
Atrak is a great turntablist and it seems quite an attention whore. Below he presents Atrak's Guide to Hotels:
Wow. Is it that time of year already. This morning the lineup for Field Day 09 dropped, and it is sexual. The ones in bold are the ones that i would pay to see. And as im sure you realise, it is most of them. Tradehooks favourite son Busy P is coming out again, with mehdi, who apparently dropped a sick set at ARQ last year, with the Bang Gang boys. Trizzy (A-Trak) is a turntable dominator and not to be missed. Digitalism played a sweet live set at the Oxford Art Factory last year, and im not going to lie, the awesome house sounds of Roger Sanchez would hit the spot on a warm sydney night.
Roger Sanchez Santogold (Live) Digitalism (Live) Jamie Lidell (Live) Boys Noize Trentemøller Switch A-Trak Late Of The Pier (Live) Yo Majesty (Live) Busy P DJ Mehdi Adam Freeland Fort Knox 5 Cicada (Live) & many more
Its on new years day 09, tickets are 120+BF, General public tickets will then be available through Fuzzy and Ticketek at midday Tuesday September 23rd.
These MNSTRM bro's on the biscuits want you there!
I was gonna post a live set of the Rolling Stones when they toured Australia in 1973, but I only got video footage at the moment, and there are interviews and shit in it, so stay tuned
But for now my favourite Rolling Stones Song. One of my very close friends walked down the aisle at her wedding to this. It was perfectly fitting
I saw this in one of my heaps exclusive fashion magazines that i get hourly everyday, it's part of Lacoste's Spring/Summer 2008 ad campaign.
Makes me want to buy some Lacoste, not the gay mod golfer stuff, like something good. Maybe i won't suit the brand until i join a country/tennis/golf club.
Hey y'all its exciting times here at tradehooks, coz our man Yeezy (Kanye West) has got himself a new single out tomorrow, Love Lockdown which is from his new album due this December.
He has been playing Love Lockdown on a few of his recent shows, and last night at the VMAs.
So a few weeks ago this video got leaked the film clip for Kanye West's 'Good Morning', a song released nearly a year ago now ye has released i believe 6 videos from Graduation, and i think its about time for some new shit
the reason that we are posting this now is that this full video has been deleted everywhere, and we spent a fair while looking everywhere and found three, that at this moment still work
oh and on a side note WESC headphones from sweden are by far the most superior DJ headphones in the world. their sound is head and shoulders over those shitty Sennheiser HD25s or whatever the fuck they are Check out WESC
Plus they have the coolest ads
In other news Neil Young will headline 2009 (2k9) Big Day Out Festivals
Lykke Li is on tour somewhere, and for some reason I am writing in italics. It seems fitting for her perfectly formed poetic words, which is really the main reason for posting this blog actually. i wish she would write for tradehooks, rather than the racist drawl we usually post.Read on blipstaz
Trippiditrapp. In between places, in between spaces right now and I’m still nowhere to be found. Something I've learned from all this insane travelling, hotel skipping, late nights and God knows what, is the importance of looking glamorous while loosing your mind. (As well as beeing well educated off course, KIDS READ MORE BOOKS! ) Not that it matters that much beeing glam but one should always have a mission in life, at least for the day. I’m actually not really losing my mind, in fact life could not be better, it's just a lot of this and that, and you who know me all know I’m a bit confused and need some structure in my life to not get lost in the daydreaming. That's why I’m laying here in my hotel room in Oslo in a silk Kimono I bought at the Re (???) in Hamburg. Don't know if you know that place but it's really crazy, it's the ultimate place to hang if you're a stripper or looking to buy a ladyfriend for the night (rather cheap actually). Unfortunately I did not buy any love but I bought a silk kimono, it was at this really shady vintage place and it costed 15 Euro but I twinkled my eye and spoke the only German I knew and got it down to 10 Euro.
Fantastic, finally one step in the right direction, we're slowly getting there... I’m also looking to find a silver bottle to keep my whisky in, a cat to keep me company and the perfect shades to cover my weary eyes. I’m also looking forward to writing more songs but I need some peace around me. A little writer's pad where I can cook spaghetti, a big wardrobe where I can keep my kimonos and a window to outlook the city. Yes, I’m inspired by Breakfast at Tiffanys (the book!).
Only problem now is to choose city. God, so many problems at the same time not. It's just too many choices, for example do you know how many times I started writing this text before erasing it and starting over? I could not choose subject or direction, I even started it as a poem about a love affair and a 7 Eleven sign, before starting over for the fifth time.
Thats why today I decided I will be who I am today, far from genius but close at heart and god damn glamorous, and as all the great leaders I will finish this off with a quote.
Lykke Li.
Her album is really great, my favourite track is Breaking it up, which recently got the swedish pop workover by the soon to be touring Australia Familjen Have a listen
Another month another ranch. Those crazy boys from the Ranch House are at it again, with another cracker of a lineup this month. Once again its at Castros, but its on a Saturday night, primetime. So get down there, its the best night in Wollongong if you like music, and I mean good real music. They got bands, DJs, duos, a guy with a computer and too much energy, and the promise of plenty of self inflicted in and around the mouth. Read on, you will soon find out what I mean...
The Jezabels The Jezabels sound cool. They all go to Sydney Uni. Study Politics and Russian literature apparently, and play at folk festivals. They have a keyboard player, dunno if it is a MoOg or not, but they can call their style indie (coz apparently to be in an indie band you need a synth/keyboard). No but seriously, they sound cool, their sound is indie/rock/pop/folk, and will go down a treat with Ranch dressing on Saturday night.
Sounds like (my opinion only, and I don't usually listen to this style of music):
George
Kate Bush
Lykke Li (but less tech)
Goldfrapp if she was in a folk band?
Dizzee Rascal if he was white, a chick and in a folk/rock band
Indie Cranberries (Mr Thom)
Youth Group (jff)
Almost Cold War Kids, but with a chick singer (jff)
Like if George were Cut Copy, Jezabels would be Van She. Or if George were Van She, Jezabels would be Van She Tech
My friend jff also suggests if "someone" and "another person" had a baby the jezabels would've killed that baby and stolen it's sound.
He also suggested that if George and cold war kids had a baby then the Jezabels probably killed that baby and drank its soul and then found some songs the baby wrote.
Check out their Jezabels Myspace coz they don't got themselves a website, thats how indie they are.
They are on triplej unearthed as well at the moment, these are mp3 links to the page
I dont know what they sound like coz they are too indie to have a website, and they are too indie too have their myspace music, and they didn't send it to us Calling in Sick Myspace
ToeCutter
I don't think he likes us, I'm pretty sure he is a blog h8er. He never sends us trax so we can promote him, coz we are massive fans, but each artist to their own. But he put on quite the show last time, and he remixes really well. He will be in the same mode as last time, but with ladies on the poles and go go dancers. wey kule!
DJ Rainbow Ejaculation Is one crazy mofo. Strong acquaintance of toecutter, they toured Japan years ago, and I have seen video footage. They were nuts, I juts don't get it.
Anyway this is his Website, if you are affected by images of penises and or strong flashing lights do not visit this site. Checkout the videos on the bottom of this page, well worth it
Justice Yeldham
This guy must be seen to be believed. His description line on his myspace says "crossing the line between music and bloodsport!" so yeh, um.
This is what his mySpace says
What’s been described as "a trumpet player trapped in a two dimensional universe" is in fact the unique audio work of Justice Yeldham, a maverick musician with an unhealthy obsession with sheets of broken glass. By pressing his face and lips against the glass whist employing various vocal techniques ranging from throat singing to raspberries, he turns disguarded household windows into crude musical instruments. Resulting in a wide variety of cacophonous noises that are strangely controlled and oddly musical.
A video of one of Justice's Performances Get down to the Ranch on Saturday night, at Castros. It's the best night in Wollongong music, fuck everywhere else. I'm DJing at the Brewhouse, don't come down. Go to the ranch, its too much fun. onefiveone have got the usual pigeons on, so go to the Ranch. maybe one day when I grow I'll get a set at the Ranch, and we can all have fun. Entry is $15 and if ur on the doorlist its $10
spook, one of our biggest fans, is playing too. After being asked what his set would be, spook informed tradehooks that "you are douche bag you do realise that". I'm not sure how to take that, but I'm guessing that means he has a highly original set with plenty of pre-releases that he can't tell us about, and that calling us a "douche-bag" is refering to that he was appalled that we even asked us to expose anything about his set. MAJOR HYPE
