New Track: The Vines - "He's A Rocker"

The Vines have a new track "He's A Rocker". It has some simple lyrics e.g. chorus: "All he ever playin was that Rock n Roll music, Rock n Roll music, yeh, All he ever wanted was a reason to do it, to do it, chyeah".

Wow incredible, so imaginative, it's mind blowing.

But nevertheless i'm a huge Vines fan and am looking forward to their performance at Splendour in the Grass.

Meet Cassette Kids (Touring with The Presets)

The Presets are starting their Australian tour on the 12th June with their new album Apocalypso (meh), their support are these cool kids "Cassette Kids" from Sydney alike. They kinda sound like Bjork, Klaxons and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, well at least thats what they say.
Their EP is coming out "soon", so who knows when that will be. If you happen to be attending a presets gig, keep an eye out.

Two Track Tuesday: Play Paul and Klaxons

This weeks theme, breathing.

Both these remixes have sampled a little breathing, for some reason it works, and well. First up is a remix i found a while ago, can't tell you much about it, other than its called "La La Land" remixed by Ed Banger All Stars, whatever and whoever that means.

mp3: Play Paul - La La Land (Ed Banger All Stars Remix)

Today's top track on HypeM is a Goldfrapp cover of the Klaxons song "It's Not Over Yet", it's pretty good, and one of the better covers i've heard. And it got me listening to some of the Klaxon's tracks, especially the bangin remix of "Golden Skans" by the Godlike SebastiAn.
If you haven't heard this, put your seatbelt on. (If your chair has one)

mp3: Klaxons - Golden Skans (SebastiAn Remix)

Ed Rec iii- Busy P Feat. MC Murs- To Protect and Entertain

As expected with every other highly anticipated new release, some c*** has leaked the new Busy P mixed Ed Rec iii. There are a few tracks floating around in particular a Justice remix of Stress, and a newie from Sebastian named Dog.

But this is my favourite, when dance music producers get together with Hip Hop Powers, successful examples include, most recently the Salmon Dance with MC Fatlip and the Chemical Bros, Krafty Kuts and Kurtis Blow, which is all i can think of at this early stage of the morning.

But now we have MC Murs and Busy P with 'to Protect and Entertain'. I like it. Heaps of people hate it coz it is a little cheese. Maybe because i have max respect going back a long way for murs, especially his stuff with Little Brother's 9th Wonder, and Busy P is french and absolutely awesome. How can you go wrong

Does anyone else wish 'Intra' was a full length track?

The beginning of the bangin' Ed Rec Vol. 2 begins with a track by Mr. Oizo called Intra, it introduces all the artists included in the album like Justice, Busy P, Mr. Flash, Vicarious Bliss, Uffie, Feadz, SebastiAn, Dj Mehdi, Krazy Baldhead, So Me and Mr. Oizo himself (in that order to if you'd like to sing along) in the voice that you would hear coming out of a GPS stuck to your window.

Like i needed to tell you all that, everyone knows Ed Rec Vol.2 and is probably listening to it right now.

But if for some crazy reason you haven't heard Ed Rec Vol.2 or let alone Intra...

EDIT:
Here's the video to go with it, makes it a little sweeter

mixmag turns 25

Mixmag is without a doubt the worlds biggest and most informative dance music magazine. They coined the phrases Trip Hop, nu-rave and many others. They came from humble beginnings in the UK and have ballooned to a readership of over 300,000 each month. Each issue comes with a sweet mixtape, recently boys noize did a bangin set, as did erol alkan.

To celebrate this birthday they shot a photo for the cover of the biggest stars of that period, this features Daft Punk, Fatboy Slim, Basement Jaxx, LCD Soundsystem, The Prodigy, Moby, Mylo, Richie Hawtin, Roisin Murphy, Dizzee Rascal, Paul van Dyk, Goldie, Sven Vath, Felix Da Housecat, Erick Morillo, Sasha, Faithless and Underworld. You would think it would be a tough ask to get all of these huge names together for one shoot, but as the video below shows, there was no photoshop.

I wonder what they all discussed... they probably played some connect four and did heaps of coke. Bangers and Mash, regulars on this forum, were asked to be in the photo, but they "weren't in the game of getting in photos with talentless chumps" bangers was reported to have told MixMag staffers.

Two Track Tuesday: The Presets and LCD Soundsystem

Apocalypso, i said in a an earlier post that i hoped it wasn't going to be a let down, now whether it has been or not, I'm undecided. Sure there are some cool tracks, some new sounds, nothing unoriginal or anything, but i just don't like it at the moment. I loved Beams, songs like Girl and the Sea, and Down Down Down i can listen to over and over, but yeh. So the song I'm bringing to you this week is the song from Apocalypso where i think they got it spot on.

mp3: The Presets - Yippiyo-ay

LCD Soundsystem's "Daft Punk is Playing is My House" is an awesome track, but what's even better is the Soulwax Shibuya Remix of the track sampling all different daft tracks right through it. It's not new or anything, just another must have song.

Lily Allen- New Track- I Don't Know

Lily has had a rough few months, after being dumped by one of the Chemical Bros (he was batting up the order!), and having a devastating miscarriage, Lily got a new track 'I don't know' out for us.

It's pretty sick, got an electronic beat, and following the nu-wave-electro-hip-hop evolution as was the style at the time, and it was either produced my Greg Kurstin or Mark Ronson I believe

Side note, I thinkin Lily is well hot, and she has so many hot pics, and those of you who know me know my thing with girls and sweet kicks and i had to put up this one coz she is wearin ill Air Jordans. She has had smoking hot shoots with GQ, Marie Claire, MQ to name a few.

mp3: Busy P - Rainbow Man

The Avalanches - Cowboys, Indians and Frontier Psychiatrists

Tonight in Sydney is the second show of The Hard Sell tour featuring Cut Chemist, Dj Shadow with support Danielsan and Dj Dexter.
"Masters of hip hop and Turntablism in their own right, Dj Shadow and Cut Chemist have joined forces for the first time since 2001 and are bringing their genre defying project, The Hard Sell, down under in April...Shadow and Cut Chemist are set to amaze Australian audiences with a daring and complex performance that sees them live on stage with 8 turntables (yes 8!), 4 mixers and an array of audio and video equipment, tricks and gadgets." (Fuzzy.com.au)

But the main reason im posting this is that anyone that hasn't heard this track below should download it now, like NOW.
Frontier Psychiatrist was released in 2000 and one of those songs that really define the music that i enjoy.

Two Track Tuesday: Sebastien Tellier and Santogold

First this week, Sebastien Tellier, not much of a fan up until this last week. I would describe his music as spacey and scaping...that's up until people like SebastiAn and Midnight Juggernauts remix his songs. The song featured this week has been on heavy rotation throughout the blogosphere, its called Divine and is remixed by the Midnight Juggernauts.
The original song comes from Sebastien Telliers album "Sexuality" released this year.

spot the real M.I.A

Next up, something that i found on the blog Have Fun Club (great blog by the way), Santogold. Listen to her and you'll think M.I.A. instantly, no doubt. Actually i don't how she is any different to M.I.A., but since i like M.I.A. i like her.
Her self titled album follows with tracks:
1. L.E.S. Artistes
2. You'll Find A Way
3. Shove It
4. Say Aha
5. Creator
6. My Superman
7. Lights Out
8. Starstruck
9. Unstoppable
10. I'm A Lady
11. Anne
12. You'll Find A Way (Remix)

The week's featured track will be "Starstruck" from the album which is due out 29th April.

Lupe- Paris, tokyo

Young lupe has grown considerably over the last few years. It seems like only yesterday he was "that kid who was in Kanye's film clip." He has both matured physically and in the content of his albums, The Cool has been in high rotation on my itunes, tackling deeper issues than skatebboarding.

One of the stand out tracks on The Cool, in my opion is "Paris, Tokyo". Lupe has just finished the clip (it appeared on youtube on the 13th of april). It appears he has ditched his dunks, hoodies and japanese pop culture shirts, for Silk scarves (read: gay), italian designer suits and shirts; and fresh watches.

He also seems to be channelling the 1950's, producing a bangin' film clip. That differs greatly from your average fiddy cent, roll in the bently, get out the bitches and flash some jacobs jewellery. The end result does justice to this awesome track.

In other news Vanilla Ice is in jail.

Rap never died, just no one was looking for it, underneath the pile of shit, AKA nu-age RnB and nu-age Gangsta Rap

Pharoahe Monch released three albums as part of the rap duo, Organized Konfusion with partner Prince Poetry. Organized Konfusion were an amazing group, who released one of my favourite tracks of all time "Stress", and has been used in every awesome DJs set's ever!

Stuff Selecta Likes - - antonio murphy and astro pow

This blizzle is made by 'antonio murphy & astro', the jewellery brand of Verbal, a member of Japanese producer group "m-flo", as well as a member of the Japanese all-star rap group "TERIYAKI BOYZ". I don't know much else about this stuff, except that if i was still in Japan the kids would be wearin' it. Pretty sure a buttload of peeps at the Bape Heads World Tour 2008 were sportin' them, Kanye and Pharrell apparently.

If anyone knows anything else hit us up

Ed Banger News - Ed Rec Vol. III, SebastiAn, Justice

The new Ed Rec Vol. III will be released on the 26th March, so put that on your calendar. The tracklist as below is exciting, i haven't heard a lot of those tracks, probably because they haven't been released yet. Busy P, Justice, SebastiAn and So Me should be stand outs, but Mehdi and Feadz could also be good.
Ed Banger have graced us with a little 10min or so 'minimix' or 'teaser' mixed by Feadz:

Get it Here (zip) - RECOMMENDED

They are doing some release parties as well:
- May 16 - Montpellier / La Dune
- May 17 - Clermont-Fd / La Coopérative de Mai
- May 18 - Paris / Secret Venue
- May 23 - Aix en Provence / Studio 88

Check that all out on their Myspace, also you can listen to the mix by Feadz there as well.

1. Mr Oizo - Yves
2. Busy P - To Protect And Entertain (feat. Murs)
3. Mr Flash - Over The Top
4. SebastiAn - Dog
5. Uffie - Robot Oeuf
6. Justice - Stress (Auto Remix)
7. Mr Oizo - Minuteman’s pulse
8. Dj Mehdi - Pocket Piano
9. Krazy Baldhead - No Cow, No Pow
10. DSL - Find Me In The World
11. Feadz - Back It Up (feat. Spank Rock)
12. So Me - Decalcomania

SebastiAn's latest release is the EP "Motor" coming 28th April.

This is what Ed Banger has to say about some of the songs from the EP:
“Motor”: basic, excessive, devastating, the definition of what the Ed Banger crew likes to call a “turbine”. As alarming as an over-heating reactor: a bomb has been deposited on the dance floor.
“Momy”: Vangelis and Moroder captured in the eye of an electronic cyclone.
“Army”: terminal atomization. No one will come out alive.

A few teaser songs have been leaked, thanks to Asian Dan and One More Disco, the track Momy was leaked just recently.

Sebastian - Motor (Distort Edit)
Sebastian - Momy
Sebastian - Kinder Kut

And finally Justice are touring in France (gayyy), on the dates below.

- April 18 - Strasbourg / Zénith with Uffie feat. Feadz and Scenario Rock
- April 19 - Bourges / Festival du Printemps
- May 15 - Montpellier / Zénith with Uffie feat. Feadz and Scenario Rock
- May 16 - Grenoble / Summum with Uffie feat. Feadz and Poney Poney
- May 18 - Paris / Olympia with Das Pop SOLD OUT
- May 20 - Dijon / Zénith : support act Uffie feat. Feadz and Scenario Rock
- May 22 - Nantes / Zénith : support act Uffie feat. Feadz and Scenario Rock

Now this is a big call, but, JUSTICE WILL BE PLAYING AT SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS. I'm making the call, someone has to do it. This is how they'll do it:
They are playing at the Emmabodafestivalen in Sweden on the 1st August, and then they catch a plane to Australia, play on the 3rd August for Splendour and then fly to Tokyo for the Sonic Festival on the 9th August, which has been confirmed.
yep, its so simple.

Cut Copy: I Love Lights & Music

I can't stop listening to the Boys Noize Happy Birthday Remix of Cut Copy's Lights & Music. So i thought i might share the love a little. Here is all the remixes i could find of Lights & Music, i take no credit for producing any of these links i just thought it would be nice if there was one place to find all the remixes of this great song. But if you like a particular blog, head on over to their blog and check it out.
I can't decide though, whether it is the remixes of this song or just that the original song is that good, being the reason why i can't stop listening.
Did anyone else notice that in every photo of Cut Copy one of their heads is always tilted, just a little bit?

Cut Copy - Lights & Music - Rock Sellout
Cut Copy - Lights & Music (Boys Noize Happy Birthday Remix) - The World Forgot
Cut Copy - Supersonic Lights & Music (Johnatron Remix) - Disco Workout

did i mention there is a video as well?

Atrak. DJ. Producer. All Round Fresh Dude.

A-trak is a rising star in the dj-ing world, he does electro, dance, fidget and hip-hop too name a few. Take note of his name because he will be mentioned many-a time on this blog, as he has already.

A-trak is the tour dj of the Louis Vuitton Don, Kanye West. He also runs his own label fools gold, which drops some really dope stuff. If this isn't enough he has won the DMC world champion ships three times, the youngest ever recipient at 15 years old.

His brother is David Macklovitch from Chromeo, and his sister is Kid Sister, whom he produces. This dude also writes a really good blog on his myspace.

A-trak is also incredibly fresh, he loves New Era hats, Jordans and awesome tees.
That is why A-TRAK is our dude of the week.

Two Track Tuesday: Uffie and Regurgitator

Two Track Tuesday this week starts with another Bangin' sensation. Born in America and raised in Paris, Uffie or Anna-Catherine Hartley as she is less referred to as, met DJ Feadz at a party she was having and went on to work together.
Her releases such as 'Pop the Glock', 'Ready to Uff', 'Hot Chick' and 'In Charge' are all fairly solid releases, but it is 'Dismissed' and her feature doing vocals in the Justice track 'Tthhee Ppaarrttyy' that really stand out for us here at TradeHooks.

Uffie has not released her own album, even though announced to be released in 2007 it has now been predicted to be released in Q3 2008.

Next up is a track which we agree could be released again today and be just as popular as when it was first released. Regurgitators '! (Song Formally Known As)' was an instant hit when it was released on the album 'Unit' in November 1997. The video was taken around Tokyo especially in the famous intersection in Shibuya.
This is the only blog you will find this single on.

Ladytron, Lesbian Electro For a New Generation

Ladytron, are they the single worst band I have ever heard? Maybe yes, because every song that I have heard that is half reasonable has had to be remixed, like every one of Dragonette's songs, or maybe even Feist (the original of My Moon My Man sucked, just like R.E.M's new album sucked too, that's what she said).

Anyway, here is a few pics of Ladytron, decide for yourselves

They are kinda hot though, but I am confused with the nationality of the guy with the moustache, kinda like when people are trying to work out where The Rock is from.

My Crazy Penis- New Album

Crazy Penis, yes that is a women, and yes she is a mingha

In 1995, two dudes Chris Todd and Jim Baron, met at university and discovered that they shared a love of phallic manipulation, or was it for crystal meth? I can't remember the full story, but anyway they formed a band, in 2002 added bassist Tim Davies, percussionist Mav, and vocalist Dannielle Moore. So now they make pretty much the best funkin electronica house around. They have released 4 albums 'A nice Hot Bath With...' in 1998 in the bands original two person form, amd then "The Wicked is Music' in 2002, 24 Hour Psychedelic Freakout' in 2003 and 'A Night on earth', my favourite album in 2005.

This year Crazy Penis is releasing their 5th studio album 'Love on the Line'. It's a little more down tempo than most of their of their previous releases, and I wasn't all that impressed. Song are repetitious and don't go anywhere, but if you are into that its awesome. Downbeat disco grooves, pants moistening vox of Dannielle Moore and enough sex appeal to turn Germaine Greer, and deep enough house beats to turn any shallow man for ugly women.

Checkitout, and if you're not convinced on their new stuff, here is a few track from the old school.

Surkin - Next of Kin EP

So Surkin is praised as the frenchies youngest star at age 20, he hails from the label Institubes and in my opinion gives those ed banger boys a run for their money. He has previously released remixes of Justice's DVNO, Klaxons Golden Skans, Boys Noize Don't Believe the Hype and Dj Mehdi's Lucky Boy,and is now set to release his EP titled 'Next of Kin' as in 'Next of 'Sur'kin' on the 10th April at a massive release party at the Paris Social Club.

The EP will go as follows:
A1. White Night Two
A2. Kid Gloves
B1. Next Of Kin
B2. Next Of Kin (Todd Edwards' Re-Kindled Mix)

The EP is actually available on the iTunes Plus Store now.

His claim to fame is that he knows "who puked in Bangalter’s mask on New Year’s Eve." continuing that he "could topple the whole French dance scene just like that." ITM.

The Ting Tings

These guys turned up in my inbox the other day (DJ jH), and what an aural relief!!!!
The Ting Tings are a UK duo from Salford, Greater Manchester City, BO Selecta! and consist of Jules De Martino (drums, vocals) and Katie White (vocals, guitar, bass drum) who is not only talented but smoking hot.

Katie used to be in a group called TKO in her teens who supported global SUPERSTARS Steps and my favourites 5ive. They got together in 2006 and released their first single "That's Not My Name/Great DJ" in 2007, which did not chart. But Rick Rubin, famed music producer (ie Beastie Boys early stuff) has been rumoured to be turning up for their shows. They have re-released that single early this year and 'Great DJ' has gotten picked up for remixing by Calvin Harris. It's a sick track and well worth your time. Man I love Calvin, in the way a man loves a Ute.

Is Billy Corgans this weeks Friday Fuckwit?

The presets news just keeps flooding in this week.

Reports have filtered into trade hooks. central, that during the gold coast v fest, billy corgan was not too happy that he had to share his headline slot time with the Presets. Billy Corgan is a renown douche bag, who had some amazing songs in the 90's, but hasn't really pulled too much shit together this century.

Apparently he was pissed that in between gaps in his songs, the sound of thousands of muddy kids raving to a throbbing four four kick was audible from the other side of the field. According to the Presets' Kim Moyes, "Billy Corgan slagged us off on sunday", "Everytime he stopped a song he's look over and see our crowd having the best time of their lives. You Know, he's pretty miserable. I guess he was just jealous."

Kim continued, "He was complaining about how all he could hear was the kick drum, and his band started to play along to what they could hear. Of course, none of them have any groove, so apparently it sounded terrible. Apparently he told the crowd to go and bash up our crowd."
He also requested one of those machines that restart your heart if you have a heart attack, at a recent mtv live gig.

Billy Corgan (below) = Fuckwit

He is testament to the idea of quitting whilst you are ahead, rather than reforming and everyone hating you.

Two Track Tuesday on Wednesday

Through the magic of technology Two Track Tuesday this week is coming on Wednesday. WOAH!

First up is not a new track, but i love it. Its a cover done by Keane of Gwen Stefani's track "Early Winter" which was released last christmas as a present to their fans. The song was actually written at first with Tim Rice-Oxley from Keane and Gwen Stefani for her album 'The Sweet Escape'.
mp3: Keane - Early Winter

Second track for this week will be a song already linked on TradeHooks but deserves to be posted again. MGMT are one of TradeHooks people to watch in 2008, they are based in Brooklyn and consist of the duo Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden.
They released the debut album in January this year called 'Oracular Spectacular' (buy it here).
If you don't check out the song below, at least check out their website.

This boy is in Love with the presets.

It may seem like we have had a bit of a Presets love fest going on at the moment, but to be truthful they just keep coming out with amazing work, they are definately two very talented lads, who have come along way since i first saw them at falls festival in '05.

Their new single This boy's in love, is more melodic than some of their earlier stuff, reminiscent of the girl and the sea. Kim (the synth/vocals guy) has a very talented brother. Kris. Kris likes to make videos, of music. He has unconventional views and makes amazing stuff. Such as the defaced wolfmother clip. Kris made this clip below. Its good. Watch it. Funnily enough one of the two milk fighting toned lads in the clip is a wollongong guy.

todays assignment is to search "Kris Moyes" on youtube
